Standards

When it comes to Salesforce, there are various types of standards your business may need to apply. These are mainly governed by (local) authorities for compliance.

The standards described here are considered by general consent and supported by the Salesforce community. These standards help to compare against some level of quality. If a certain standard is practiced by many — why would you deviate from it?

Salesforce itself governs specific standards. There are limits tied to your license that you need to take into account, and there are also standards related to the development of custom code.

The Salesforce governor limits are all predefined by the license edition. Using a 'Group' license edition means these governor limits are far more restrictive than when using an 'Enterprise' license edition. Some of these governor limits, for example, restrict the number of custom fields you are allowed to create on objects. Some limits simply apply to all editions. All system administrators have access to a 'System Overview' page where the most important limits and their current status are presented.

There are also limits when it comes to transactions, API calls, etc. These are so-called 'Execution limits', also known as 'Apex limits'.
